Special Guest:

2022

Collaboration was held at Bunbury Grammar School

Special Guest: Benoît Averly (France)

Benoît Averly lives and works in Burgundy, France. There, he creates, in a refined spirit, art pieces in wood; with subtle contrasts, playing with light, lines and textures. Inspired by nature and architecture, he feeds his creations through his photographic journey through numerous trips, in search of a rhythm, and quiet balance.

Wood, a media he discovered in his childhood, is worked in simple shapes, rarely smooth, most often hewn with different effects of matter, texture, or repetitive patterns. On some pieces the wood loses its obvious aspect, taking on instead, the properties of other elements.

2019

Collaboration was held at the Forest Discovery Centre in Dwellingup Western Australia

Special Guest: Ken Wraight (Australia)

Ken is from Australia and began his woodturning career in 2000, turning it into a lifelong obsession perhaps 5 or 6 years later. Since that humble beginning, Ken has won many awards including the prestigious Australian National Woodturning Exhibition (Open) on five separate occasions.

Ken regularly travels around Australia teaching and demonstrating. He has also demonstrated in New Zealand, America and regularly at the annual Turnfest symposium in Australia. Ken also is a regular contributor to the Australian Woodworker magazine.

Now, thirteen years on, Ken Wraight’s work has an international following. Ken’s work typically features a multitude of pieces turned to tolerances usually reserved for metalworking – his work is easily recognised by its delicate spindle décor often mixed with intricate lattice turning. This combination is the hallmark of his work.

2018

Collaboration was held at Bunbury Grammar School

Special Guest: Mike Lee (Hawaii)

Mike Lee is Hawaii born and raised, and it shows. An avid surfer and waterman, he gets a lot of the inspiration for his wood carving from the ocean. An excellent and patient instructor as well, he has given demonstrations and taught at some of America’s premier schools, and as far away as New Zealand.

His work is in the permanent collections of The Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum; The State Foundation of Culture and the Arts; Hawaii State Art Museum; Honolulu Academy of Arts,  The Contemporary Museum; Detroit Institute of Arts, Arkansas Arts Center and The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts as well as numerous private collections around the world.  He has been a featured demonstrator at several National woodturning symposiums and has taught at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.  He has exhibited work at National and International juried shows.

Hape Kiddle

As a sculptor and jeweller I have been working for many years refining a language in shape and form that reflects my deep connection to the natural world.  Our relationship to it is at the heart of all my enquiries and my work is a reflection on the spiritual connection humans have to all of ecology.

My work demonstrates the development of this language through the mediums of wood, stone and precious metals.
